The Breakdown
When the breakdown comes for the breakthrough, there is often an accompanying sense of loss. We know that we have to change. We know that the way we are living is no longer sustainable. If we keep doing what we did, we will surely just get more of what we got.
And that same old, same old is just not what we want anymore. The change is inevitable. Destined. It’s time. No more putting it off.
When the breakdown comes, there is always a breakthrough. There is resolve. There is determination. There is fear, as well.
And we have grief. A grief that must be given voice. The voice of grief is often in the form of regret. So many wasted years. So many people were hurt. So much lost time. And so many mistakes for which we wish we could have a do-over. Grief can ask for forgiveness, and make amends. It can right a wrong. Grief must be faced bravely.
I have shattered and picked up the pieces so many times in my life. Each time, I find that I reclaim a little bit more of my lost soul. Then I write a song about it. About how the journey transforms the traveler. Music is my balm, my tonic, my healing elixir. I bleed into my songs and somehow the wound begins to heal.
And I hope my lyrics and melodies can offer my listeners just the right tone or note to help them in the wee hours of the morning when hope and comfort barely survive.
I wonder… have you come to the end of the road and know it’s time for a new course or a course correction?
A new belief. A new song. A new project. A new dream. There is no time like this present moment to begin anew. Your new life begins now.
Distilled down to three simple words for today, the tonic is: Let’s begin anew.
