Impossible?
Is your dream impossible? There are no impossible dreams, beloved. If you can see it, then it is possible.
What is often impossibly difficult in fulfilling a dream, though, is the labyrinth of negative nellies and dream killers that must be navigated on the path to achieving our secret aspirations.
There is a fundamental principle about dreams and daydream believers. Dreaming the impossible dream is like sustenance to those who are born dreamers. It is the food that nourishes our life. So we dare to dream out of necessity because it gives us life, vitality, and spunk. Without it, we lose our verve and moxie. The liveliness and sparkle in our eyes grow dim, and life becomes just one meaningless day after another. The melancholy sets in along with excruciating fatigue and anxiety.
I write to those who have big dreams and small dreams. To those who have a tiny seed of hope in the womb of their hearts that needs nurturing. I write lovingly for those who need the courage to dream, and the fortitude to bravely hold onto those dreams in the face of the seeming obstacles.
Don’t give up. That dream is there for a reason. But know this:
You will find that naysayers are abundant. Sometimes they even live inside your head. As dreamers, we must learn to protect our hearts and minds from grinches, scrooges, and wet blankets in order to stay the course.
Following our heart also means putting safeguards in place to defend the wee bairn of a dream that is growing inside you. Our so-called “impossible,” “improbable” or “unlikely” dreams must be protected with vigilance and diligence just like a parent watching over a child. We must be careful about whom we trust. We must be scrupulous when in proximity with those whose words are meant to shame daydream believers into staying and playing small. They are dream thieves.
I wonder…is there an impossible dream that leads you on and gives you life right now?
If so, be careful of the sand traps and bloody ambushes. Safeguard baby dreams from prying eyes and killjoys. And whatever you do, don’t let believer-shame in the door. Daydream believer-shame happens when we share our dreams with dream killers and are told to get our heads out of the clouds and into the “real world.” Whatever that is. My dreams are more real to me than anything else.
Imagination is what creates new realities.
The tonic, distilled to three simple things for today: Dare to dream that impossible dream. Be careful whom you trust with it. Don’t let believer-shame in the door.
